Ciba-Geigy Superfund Site
Remediation |
|
Since 1982, a two-phase Superfund environmental remediation project has been ongoing at the Ciba-Geigy Site, now owned and operated by Ciba Specialty Chemicals, in Toms River, NJ. This clean up of a former manufacturing facility is being conducted by Ciba under the oversight of the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The EPAs goals are to protect human health and the environment and to restore the contaminated groundwater aquifer that runs beneath the Site. The first phase of the project is a groundwater pump and treat system that has been in full operation since 1996. The second phase, currently in operation, involves removing and treating the sources of contamination that are leaching into the groundwater.
